Audrey’s Restaurant: Dining in the Old City of Alfama, Lisbon
Ideally located in the centre of Alfama, Audrey’s Restaurant is everything you could possibly want from a family run Portuguese restaurant in Lisbon. Audrey’s Restaurant offers not only spectacular food, but an exquisite selection of wine and cocktails too. The perfect way to end a day of exploring the beautiful city of Lisbon.
Welcomed like old friends, we sat with Manuel talking about everything from photography to philosophy and politics. It was great to have such good conversation that went beyond the usual pleasantries, and a sure way to make us feel at home. Photos of Audrey, Manuel’s daughter are elegantly displayed around the restaurant, a showcase of Manuel’s love of photography, and a nice personal touch to the tasteful decor.

Unable to decide from the vast choices on the menu, we were kindly brought a selection of dishes to try. It turned out to be a selection of some of the finest food we’ve had the pleasure of tasting.
Fresh prawns from Mozambique dressed in garlic and light piri piri, so succulent that they melt in your mouth and make you go back for more. Up next, fresh clams from the Tagus river just outside the restaurant, served in a simple yet delicious sauce of white wine, garlic, and fresh coriander. You’ll also have to try an incredible dish named pica-pau. Tender sirloin steak finely sliced with garlic and pickles, served with a side of french fries. The entire selection was a feast for the senses.

With such a range of delicious starters and entrees, you’ll have to be careful to leave room for dessert. Well worth unbuttoning your jeans for extra space, the upside-down cheesecake and a chocolate brownie to die for. As a harsh critic when it comes to chocolate brownies, this one did not disappoint. A soft melt-in-your-mouth centre and a dusting of icing sugar, served with fresh berries to cut perfectly through the chocolate… absolute heaven. The upside-down cheesecake was unbeatable too. The perfect balance of sweet and savory, with a homemade berry coolie retaining the bite of the berries to cut through the sweetness above.
The selection of starters was an incredible way to get a taste for what Audrey’s chefs are capable of. Accompanied by the perfect wine pairing, and it’s no wonder locals and travellers alike come back time and again.
Audrey’s Cafe, Restaurant and Bar is open all for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. With seating inside and out, it’s the perfect Lisbon dining experience at any time of day. For opening times and menus, visit the website. Enjoy!
